The beginning of the new year is all about setting goals, tackling resolutions, and getting motivated to conquer the year. It’s easy enough to start on the right foot, but sticking with your goals is easier said than done, especially now that we’re over a month into the year. Nothing is more important in my opinion than staying organized. It makes life so much easier, and with just a few simple life changes, you can be just as crazy organized as I am. Here’s my top 5 best ways to stay organized.
1. Plan Your Meals
Every Sunday decide on your meal schedule, make a grocery list, and go shopping. This is the best thing Graham and I have ever stuck to doing. It makes weekly dinners so much less stressful when you know exactly what you’re making throughout the week and that you already have all the necessary ingredients.
2. Create a Schedule
Write it down. All of it. If you’re trying to exercise more, work on personal projects, meditate, or even read more, put it in your schedule. It’s no secret that I’m a planner. I write everything in my Erin Condren planner and even add appointments and important dates in the calendar on my phone. Call me crazy, but knowing I have everything scheduled out helps me stay organized with tasks and on top of appointments.
3. Go Through Your Closet
Get rid of anything you haven’t worn in the last year. Just do it and don’t look back. I’ve gotten in the habit of putting clothes in a “donate” pile in the back of my closet. That way if you have serious regret about getting rid of something you can pull it back out before dropping it all off at Goodwill. Not only does it feel good to get it all organized, it also feels great to know you’re donating clothes to someone who needs them.
4. Keep To-Do Lists
Whether it be work tasks or chores for home, keeping a to-do list will ensure nothing is ever forgotten. You’ll be able to work more efficiently and proactively plan ahead knowing which task is up next. Also, you can’t beat that feeling of checking off a task once it is complete.
5. Put Things Away, Right Away
This is something I continue to work on. It’s not easy but it is the simplest way to continually stay organized. Whatever item you’re using, from hairdryer to jacket, put it away right after using it. You’ll always know everything is in its place, and you won’t have to waste time tidying up or searching for something you left in the wrong place.
What do you do to stay organized? Please let me know that I’m not the only one with an obsession for organization!
