Yesterday marked one year since I picked little Sophie up from Adopt Pet Shelter. After a couple weeks of hiding in our bathroom and many months of getting used to everything in the apartment, she slowly transformed into the cuddly, attention seeking, laser chasing, lovable cat that she is today. I can’t imagine what our life would be like without her meows of excitement for food, her spontaneous sprints through the apartment, and her love for snuggling.
Today, I am beyond happy to have not only decided to adopt, but I am even more thankful that Sophie was the kitten we chose to bring into our life. I’ll be honest, I was pretty nervous as I was picking her up from the shelter. Having never owned a cat, I had no idea what to expect. Would she rip apart my furniture? Would she poo/pee all over the floor? Luckily all my worst nightmares haven’t even been close to the reality of owning a cat. Okay, okay. She does sometimes confuse the couch with her scratching post and occasionally misses the litter box. But she’s just so dang cute that I forgive her. Looking back now, I can’t believe that I even worried about bringing Sophie home because we couldn’t have asked for a better cat to adopt.
We have made so many memories throughout our first year with Sophie. We have watched her personality grow, her parkour skills improve and her confidence soar. No longer do we have a shy kitty who hides from strangers or runs from any loud noise (except the vacuum, that is still the scariest thing ever). I am so excited to see what the future has in store with Sophie by our side. I’m ready for another year of cuteness overload, warm snuggles, and many more meows.
